The Board of Aldermen signaled their intent last night that one of two following rate structures should be selected, indicating that the original analyst recommendations are no longer under consideration:
10% Surcharge Model (Water Model 5 and Sewer Model 4):
This model retains a surcharge for out-of-town customers, this surcharge will be 10% for out-of-town customers which aligns with Springfield's approach. This rate is notably lower than other regional cities, which typically charge 40-50% more for out-of-town service.
Flat Rate Model (Water Model 6 and Sewer Model 6):
This model applies a single rate to all customers, regardless of location, eliminating the out-of-town surcharge altogether.
The next meeting will be November 25th @ 7pm after the board completes a 2025 budget work study session beginning at 6pm; both will be held at city hall.
