The Board of Aldermen has adopted new rates for water and sewer services. The new rates were effective immediately upon the ordinance's signing Monday night. This rate establishes one water rate and one sewer rate for all customers regardless of whether a customer receives utility services inside or outside of city limits.
New Rates:
Water (Residential, Commercial):
$14.66 Monthly charge, no allowance
WAS: $15.28 in-town & $16.63 out-of-town; included first 1000 gallons.
$4.56 per 1,000 gallons or part thereof
WAS: $2.86 in-town & $3.12 out-of-town.
Sewer (Residential, Commercial):
$28.96 Monthly charge, no allowance.
WAS: $28.83 in-town & $31.37 out-of-town; included first 1000 gallons.
$10.07 per 1,000 gallons or part thereof
WAS: $6.44 in-town & $7.00 out-of-town.
These rates will take effect starting with the next billing cycle. Bills generated on February 20th will reflect the new rates and will cover the billing period from January 19th through February 20th.
We understand that rate adjustments can be challenging, and we empathize with those who may experience difficulty with the new rates. This decision was not made lightly, it reflects careful consideration of community feedback seeking fairness, while addressing the urgent need to fund critical infrastructure and ensure reliable services for all customers, both now and in the future.
